Two second-hand Lockheed C-130 military transport aircraft are set to be delivered to the Philippine Air Force this year.
This was disclosed by PAF chief Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Delgado on Tuesday.
“We expect the first C-130 by the middle of this month, March 15. The Air Force Technical Working Group are in the United States right now,” Delgado said.
“These C-130s are refurbished,” Delgado said. “We bought it at a reduced price. We spent P1.6 billion for that,” he added.
The acquisition is part of the ongoing modernization program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines amid China’s sweeping expansion in the West Philippine Sea.
Meanwhile, the other C-130 plane is expected to be delivered by September.
The two aircraft are acquired under the Excess Defense Articles program of the United States. The aircraft will bring the number of C-130s in the Philippine Air Force (PAF) inventory to five.
