MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Army will recruit 2,575 candidate soldiers this year to fill up various units throughout the country.
The Army is also recruiting 300 college graduates and young professionals for its officer corps.
As part of the celebration of the Army’s 119th anniversary this month, recruitment booths will be set up in selected areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to accommodate applicants.
A campaign called “Subukan Mo” will be implemented. The campaign emphasises that although combat is the core competency of the Philippine Army, soldiers also serve as teachers, athletes, engineers and life savers.
The Army is implementing skills-based recruitment based on the Military Operational Specialty, which includes Infantry, Cavalry, Field Artillery, Ordnance Service, Quarter Master Service, Corps of Engineers, Military Intelligence, Adjutant General Service, Finance Service and Signal Corps.
Out of the 2,575 recruits, 2,325 are allocated for male applicants and 250 for female applicants. Processing of applicants will start this month and training starts in June.
For the officer corps, 160 will go to the Officer Candidate Course (OCC) and 140 will undergo the Officer Preparatory Course (OPC). The first batch will start training next month and the second batch in November.
The OCC is a one-year course for college graduates who wish to join the Army as an officer. The OPC is a six-month course for those who have completed their ROTC advanced course and probationary officer’s training course.
Army recruitment offices are located in Fort Bonifacio in Metro Manila, Camp Lapu-Lapu in Cebu City and Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro City. Interested applicants may visit the Army website at www.army.mil.ph.
