China is keen on improving economic and political ties with the Philippines through trade cooperation and dialogue with political parties, an official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said on Friday.
Acting Deputy Director-General Yuan Zhibing of the CPC International Department Central Committee is in the Philippines for a three-day visit to reach out to political parties to improve bilateral relations and exchange views on state governance.
He told The STAR that the CPC is interested to study the advanced notions of governance of political parties and learn from it to improve the status of their party.
He also believed political party-to-party talks should continue to pave way for the future improvement of bilateral relations and maintain good relationship with the Philippines.
“The Chinese government is focused on domestic issues and making efforts to transform a more sustainable development pattern for China’s economic growth,” Zhibing said.
He also said it would take 50 years before China could surpass the US economy because China’s per capita gross domestic product is still very low and the quality of economic development and core competitiveness of China’s development is far behind compared to the European Union and the US.
China pays attention to neighboring countries to develop a stable relationship with them and adopt a common vision for the strengthening of political and economic ties.
“Neighboring countries could take advantage of China’s economic development and vice versa if we have stable relationship,” he said.
He hopes neighboring countries, including the Philippines, could develop faster and better.
