9News, the news programming division of 9TV, will undergo another rebranding but this time as the Cable News Network (CNN) Philippines.
Media Newser, an online community website for Filipino journalists which first reported the development, said the network will host a trade launch this week to announce their groundbreaking alliance with the international news organization and to state what the advertisers, press and TV viewers would expect in their newest venture.
Through a short phone conversation, a source from the company confirmed to Manila Standard Today that its audience will soon experience watching an internationally acclaimed news channel on free television.
CNN Philippines aims to compete with the country’s local brand of news organizations such as GMA News, TV5 and ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).
9News is the news team of the media conglomerate Solar Television Network, leasing the airtime of Radio Philippines Network (RPN-9) under the new Chief Executive Officer Antonio Cabangon-Chua, a former Philippine ambassador to Laos and also the founder of Aliw Broadcasting Corporation.
