MANILA - President Aquino defended Monday Vice-President Jejomar Binay amid talk that the two have had a falling-out after the vice-president criticized some of the administration's policies.
Speaking to reporters, Aquino said he sees no need to castigate Binay since the vice-president is doing a good job as a member of the Cabinet.
"Ginagawa naman ni Binay ang trabaho niya. Nagawa niya ito nang maayos. No point of castigating him after doing a good job," he said.
He also confirmed that he and Binay talked about the corruption allegations being leveled against the vice-president.
He said he told Binay "the truth will come out and that between the two of them, the VP knows the truth."
Binay is facing a plunder complaint over the alleged overpricing of the P2.2 billion Makati City Hall Building II, which started construction while he was Makati mayor.
Several resource persons in a Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee have also accused Binay of pocketing millions of pesos in kickbacks for various infrastructure projects. Former Makati vice-mayor Ernesto Mercado also accused Binay of owning a 350-hectare property in Batangas.
Binay has denied the allegations but refused to appear before the Senate inquiry.
