China in recent days has busted a slew
of smugglers bringing Apple iPhone 6 models into the country ahead of their
official release.
Customs officials at Shanghai Pudong
seized e453 iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, with an estimated
worth of over 2 million yuan (320,000 U.S. dollars) during three separate busts Thursday until Saturday in Hong Kong.
The confiscation included men with a
speedboat who were loading illegal imports onto a wooden sampan-style boat in a
mangrove, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
The latest Apple
smartphones were found inside the seven luggage carried by two passengers from
Tokyo, one of them is Japanese citizen and the other are Chinese.
Customs says that
since the IPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are not available in China, most
passengers carrying these latest smartphones were from Canada, Russia and Hong
Kong.
Approximately 700 more of the apple smartphones
have been seized separately from passengers who did not declare them.
