MANILA, Philippines— The Butuan Doctors Hospital has denied allegations that its staff refused to admit a critically-ill child after her mother failed to produce enough money for the deposit.

Purita Escobar, nursing director of the Butuan Doctors Hospital, said their staff did not demand a deposit before Jannary “Yanna” Chan could be admitted to the hospital.
Escobar said the hospital has no deposit-first policy and is prepared to cooperate with authorities to investigate the incident.

She said a hospital doctor even went inside the ambulance to check Chan’s condition but claimed that the mother, Tutz Saladra-Chan,  failed to produce a referral form from the San Francisco Doctors Hospital.

The hospital management asserted that no discussion regarding the downpayment happened between one of their staff and Tutz adding that the family decide to leave the hospital at their discretion.

On July 16, Yanna passed away from congestive heart failure after the hospital staff of Butuan City Doctors Hospital allegedly refused to admit the child because the Chans could not pay the full deposit of P30, 000 for the intensive care unit.

Her distraught mother has taken to social media to express her grief over the death of her daughter and is considering filing charges against the hospital.
